NASCAR: 101 Reasons to Love Stock Car Racing

Prohibition started it. The good ol’ boys who ran moonshine on the twisting, turning roads of Appalachia had to outpace the Feds – so they modified their cars for speed and maneuverability. Pretty soon, they were racing those stock cars on tracks throughout the rural South. Then, in 1948, the sport got official, when mechanic Bill France, Sr., and a couple dozen owners and drivers, meeting in a smoky barroom in Daytona Beach, Florida, founded the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Fast-forward 60 years. Today, NASCAR is the second most popular sport in America, ranking just below NFL football in television ratings. An estimated 75 million people call themselves NASCAR fans. NASCAR: 101 Reasons to Love Stock Car Racing chronicles the whole phenomenal story, from NASCARÂ’s earliest days, through the reigns of the “King,” Richard Petty, in the ’60s and ’70s and the “Intimidator,” Dale Earnhardt, in the ’80s and ’90s, right up to today’s star drivers. NASCAR’s hottest teams, fastest cars, greatest events, and most unforgettable moments – theyÂ’re all here, in this fact-filled, colorful, and thrillingly illustrated book about our new national pastime.

1955 in NASCAR

1955 in NASCAR

$76.47

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The 1955 NASCAR Grand National Season began on November 7, 1954 and ended on October 30, 1955. Even though the season was resolved in the course of two different years, all NASCAR personnel were allowed to have their traditional twomonth silly season that traditionally comes between midNovember and midFebruary. Tim Flock won the 1955 championship by a margin of 1508 over top of Buck Baker. This season was unusual because of its 11month season. As the ninth season of the series now known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, most of the drivers involved were still the firstgeneration race car drivers. They did not have any ties to the stock car racing world through their parents or grandparents although some of them served in World War II prior to their NASCAR careers. However, the generation that would gain notoriety and fame through nepotism would emerge about ten years later. The average horsepower of a stock car competing the 1955 NASCAR Grand National season would be 230 horsepower. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The USAC Stock Car division was the stock car racing class sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC). The division raced nationally; drivers from USACs open wheel classes like IndyCars, Silver Crown, sprint cars, and midgets frequently competed in races and won championships. Several NASCAR drivers raced in USAC Stock Cars at various points in their careers. In the late 1950s, USAC Stock Cars rivaled NASCAR stock cars with races throughout the Midwestern and Northeastern United States. NASCAR owners Holman Moody found racing in USAC Stock Cars to be appealing because of USACs ties to the Indianapolis 500. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Australian NASCAR racing was sanctioned by Bob Janes Australian Stock Car Auto Racing (AUSCAR) authority on behalf of NASCAR in America but the relationship between the two was tenuous, and drifted over time. In 1987 with the completion of the Calder Park Thunderdome extensions the much delayed first NASCAR race late in the 1987 racing season with the first major event, the 1988 Goodyear NASCAR 500 following early in 1988. Initially some American drivers, mostly second tier drivers, visited the Thunderdome but this waned over time and big name guest drivers were lured from circuit racing to bolster fields. Allan Grice and Dick Johnson were both early supporters of the concept, both travelling to the US to race in the then Winston Cup series, although success was limited.
