Why are there so few Ford and Dodge teams in Nascar?

There are only 7 Dodge and 7 Ford teams who run a full schedule in NASCAR this year. I hear rumors that Petty Enterprises is going to Toyota leaving only the 3 Penske cars driving Dodge in 2010. Roush has had to cut Jamie McMurray reducing the Fords to 6 full time teams for 2010. Why are Chevrolets and Toyotas dominating NASCAR? I know loyal Ford and Dodge fans who are feel cheated when only Chevy and Toyota seem to be winning all the races because they have all the cars.
This is Sprint Cup.

There used to be a lot of Ford teams, but they have made no big engine changes since the 80s Ive heard from other YA users(ive asked this too)

Recently (last 10 years) many Ford teams have switched manufactures to get a competitive edge. Ford and Roush are working on a FR9 engine you can expect the non-Chasers driving Fords to use in the coming weeks to test it.

Dodge is trying to avoid going broke. I Toyota is making millions and can afford it. Ford hasn’t made many improvements. And Chevy- dont really know.

And yes- I want to buy a Ford because Carl Edwards drives one. Really, I do.
